After ten thousand years of penance and meditation, a divine being sprang out of Brahma’s body, and stood before him, bearing an inkpot and a pen.

It had taken Brahma ten thousand years to create Chitra gupta.

It took Armani sixteen years to create Chitra Gupta.

Chitra Gupta. The one who remains unseen. One who records our deeds faithfully. Without ambiguity. Without deceipt.

For justice to be served, truth must bear its own witness.

This is the germ of thought that entwines former IIT classmates- a business magnate, an innovator, a trader, a venture capitalist, a social reformer, a bureaucrat, and a public relations/ liaison agent. Meeting at their Reunion event after twenty years, their lives get entangled, to give truth a chance, through technological innovation, enormous funds and extreme personal sacrifice.

The book begins at a future point when the LokPal Bill has been passed but struggles for implementation. It also uncovers some big scams: iron ore, telecom and Internet surveillance, in the high power games of India. The key characters work together to create a fool proof way of delivering the truth, although at high sacrifice. Most of all, a story based on facts, with minor adjustments. A big part of the story is in Karnataka.

Describing the book’s title, the author says, “There is a winner in each one of us, but we must be willing to stake what it takes to be one. Winners often toil harder, sacrifice much, and stake more than others, only because they believe in a cause bigger than themselves. But every win extracts its own price- the winner’s price.”
